Automatic Gate Repair in North Richland Hills, TX
Driveway and entry gates have a lot of moving parts. We troubleshoot motors, sensors, and controls so you're back to one-touch entry.
Automatic gates fail in more ways than garage doors do, because there is more to them: an operator, a control board, safety loops or photo eyes, an entry device, and sometimes a keypad, a call box, and a phone line. When a gate quits, the useful first question is whether the gate itself moves freely when you disengage the operator.
If it swings or rolls fine by hand, the problem is electrical and we start at the board, the transformer, and the entry devices. If it binds by hand, the operator was just working harder than it should have been, and no electrical repair will hold until the mechanical side is right.
We work on both swing and slide gates. In practice about 95 percent of what we touch is LiftMaster, which is what the builders around here have been putting on driveways for years, so it is the line we know best and the one we stock parts for. We also service DoorKing, All-O-Matic, Apollo, and US Automatic. We handle the mechanical side too, including hinges, wheels, posts, and minor welding. That matters more than it sounds like it should, because most gate companies do one side or the other, and you end up playing general contractor between a welder and an electrician over one gate.
Signs you need automatic gate repair
- The gate does not respond to the remote, keypad, or call box
- It opens but will not close, or closes and immediately reopens
- The operator hums or clicks but the gate does not move
- The gate moves slowly, jerks, or stops partway
- It has been running off a dead battery or a failed solar panel
Narrowing it down before we arrive
One test splits every gate fault into two piles, and it takes about a minute.
Find the manual release on the operator. On most units it is a lever or a keyed disconnect on the housing. Release it, then move the gate by hand through its full travel.
If the gate glides freely the whole way, your problem is electrical and we will be looking at the board, the transformer, the battery and the entry devices. If it drags, binds, sticks at one point, or takes real effort, the problem is mechanical, and that matters more than it sounds: the operator has been fighting that resistance every cycle for months. Whatever failed electrically probably failed because of it. Fixing the board without fixing the drag just buys you another board.
Where gate money actually goes
We do not publish gate ranges the way we do garage doors, and the reason is honest rather than evasive: gates vary too much for a number to mean anything before we see it. A twelve-foot aluminium swing gate on a level driveway and a twenty-foot ornamental iron slider on a hill are not the same job.
What we can tell you is the rough shape of it. Batteries and entry devices are small money. Control boards are a real part but a routine repair. Hinges, wheels and welding land in the middle and depend on access. A full operator replacement is the big one, and it is where sizing matters, because an undersized unit on a heavy gate fails early and repeatedly no matter how many times it is replaced.
You get a firm number after we diagnose it and before anything gets done.
Why gate work needs both trades
Most gate problems are part mechanical and part electrical, and most companies only do one of them.
That split is why gate repairs drag on. The automation company comes out, finds the gate is dragging on the concrete, and tells you to get a welder. The welder comes out, fixes the sag, and will not touch the operator or its limits, which are now wrong because the gate hangs differently. You end up project-managing two trades who each think the other one owns the problem.
We do both. Hinges, wheels, posts, frames and welding on one side, operators, boards, batteries, loops and entry devices on the other. On a sagging gate we square the geometry first, then reset the operator to the corrected travel, because doing it the other way round means the limits are wrong the moment the gate moves properly again. One visit, one company, one person to hold responsible.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if it is the gate or the operator?
Disengage the operator and move the gate by hand. If it moves freely, the problem is electrical: board, transformer, battery, or entry device. If it drags, binds, or sags, the mechanical side needs fixing first, because the operator has been straining against it.
Do you work on gates you did not install?
Yes, and that is most of our gate work. We service the common operator brands and we handle the mechanical repairs too, so you are not hiring a welder and an electrician separately for the same gate.
Do you repair LiftMaster gate operators?
Yes, and they are the bulk of our gate work. Roughly 95 percent of the operators we service are LiftMaster, so we know the boards, the limit systems, and the common failure points on that line, and we carry the parts that fail most often. DoorKing, All-O-Matic, Apollo, and US Automatic we handle too.
How much does automatic gate repair cost?
It depends too much on what failed for a range to be useful, so we quote after we diagnose it. A board or battery is a modest repair, a full operator replacement is not, and we tell you which one you are looking at before any work starts.
